About CheersNHS

What is CheersNHS' mission?

  • We've all witnessed the pressure on our emergency services grow due to the outbreak of COVID 19. As well as washing our hands, staying inside and clapping on our doorsteps, we were driven to do something more to show our gratitude to these healthcare heroes. We hope that the small gesture of donating a meal to a hardworking NHS worker will provide them with some comfort, as well as giving them one less thing to think about after a long shift!

How does it work?

  • Members of the public can sign-up to donate a takeaway, here. We will then randomly allocate this free meal to an NHS healthcare worker, who can sign-up to receive a meal. They can then use their free meal voucher to indulge in a takeaway of their choice through Just Eat's distribution of independent takeaways around the UK.

What's in it for the CheersNHS team?

  • CheersNHS is a not-for-profit organisation. We're registered as a limited company by guarantee - any excess profits will go back into the system towards takeaways for NHS workers. All that's in it for us is that warm fuzzy feeling!

Why do meals go through Just Eat?

  • When building CheersNHS, we thought very carefully about how we can benefit society as much as possible, and not only NHS workers. We want to support local, independent takeaways and restaurants as much as possible because they too are struggling during the lockdown. The problem is, independent takeaways tend not to provide any form of digital gift voucher in a scalable way. That's why Just Eat is such a great option - they provide a ready-made distribution network of independent takeaways, and also provide the technology for us to be able to integrate with.

How many meals have been donated so far?

  • You can see the latest stats on the homepage which are updated regularly.

FAQs from health workers

How do I redeem my voucher code?

  • To redeem your voucher code please enter it in the form on this page.

How can I register to receive a donation?

  • You can sign-up to receive a donation, here. All you'll need to tell us is your name, your role and your NHS email address.

Can I sign up if I don't work directly for the NHS or have an NHS email?

  • Yes, we'd love you to! We want to thank all healthcare workers who are on the frontline. We require an NHS email on the NHS worker signup form because this is the easiest way for us to verify registrations at scale. However, if you do not have access to an NHS email and would still like to register, please fill in the form here and we'll be glad to manually verify you.

How long will it take to receive a donation?

  • When a takeaway is matched, we will email both the NHS worker who receives it, as well as the person who kindly gifted it straight away. The NHS worker will need to click the link in their email in order to redeem the code within 1 month, otherwise the code will be recycled back into the system. We do this to make sure that the vouchers are being used, and do not simply get missed or sent to an incorrect email address.

Can I receive more than 1 takeaway?

  • No, afraid not. To make this as fair as possible, NHS workers can only be matched once.

FAQs from donators

How much can I donate?

  • You can donate in denominations of £15 up to £50. Once your donation has been allocated, do feel free to donate again! You can donate a meal as many times as you'd like, or when donating you can simply choose a quantity of more than 1 voucher. If you donate with a quantity of 5 vouchers for example, then you will be matched with 5 different NHS workers therefore buying 5 NHS workers a takeaway!

I haven’t received any emails from CheersNHS

  • You should receive a confirmation email from CheersNHS within an hour of purchasing your voucher. Please check your spam folder to make sure it’s not hidden in there. If not, then please contact us at support@cheersnhs.com and we’ll help get to the bottom of the issue. When contacting us, please include a screenshot of the email confirmation you received from Just Eat, ensuring that the unique email address you used on the Just Eat site is visible in the screenshot. This is usually due to a typo in the email address provided on step 1 of the CheersNHS page.

How do you know that it is an NHS member that is getting the reward?

  • When healthcare workers register with CheersNHS, we ask for their NHS email address so we can verify their role. Should someone not have an NHS email address, we perform a manual verification. That way you can be sure your donation is going to the right place.

How will I know who I've donated a meal to?

  • Once your donation has been allocated, you'll receive an email letting you know who your free meal has been gifted to, what their role is, and where they're based.

How quickly will my donation be given to a health worker?

  • As long as there is an NHS worker signed up to receive your takeaway, then you will be matched up within minutes of donating. There is a chance that less NHS workers are signed up than people donating - if this happens then not only do we need to spread the word into the NHS, but you'll simply be matched as and when an eligible NHS worker signs up.

How can I buy a larger number of takeaways in bulk?

  • You can enter a quantity of up to 9 when buying through CheersNHS process, and you can do this multiple times. If you'd like to make a larger donation or sponsor CheersNHS, please email joe@cheersnhs.com.

Can I sponsor CheersNHS?

  • Of course, we'd love as many people as possible to get involved to help donate even more meals to health workers. If you're interested in becoming a sponsor, please get in touch, joe@cheersnhs.com. If you're a software or service provider that wishes to support CheersNHS in some other way, then please do get in touch also.
